Bad Luck Comes in Threes?

We seem to be in the middle of a repair hell. Before you worry too much, we have insurance as well as a home warranty to fix everything. But still. Here has been our week... About a week ago, Nathan was cooking (or attempting to cook) on the stove, and he smelled something "funny". He turned off our electric stove, and looked underneath; everything seemed okay. Well, the stove never came back on. We're not sure what's wrong, so we called our warranty company (luckily it's covered), and we have a repair scheduled for Monday. I think it was the same day that I received a voicemail about a recall of our dishwasher at the townhouse. I didn't get around to calling them back right away because of the following... The next day, I went to change the roll of toilet paper in the half bath, only to realize that the toilet paper under the sink (really, everything under the sink) was sopping wet. Pipe leak. It was right after a heavy rain, so we were relieved to find that it was a pipe, and not a leak from outside. Nathan repaired it with $1 worth of putty. Not too big a deal, but still an inconvenience. The next day, the dryer stopped working. Luckily, by no effort on mine or Nathan's part, it miraculously started working again, and is doing fine. Thursday, I realized that the toilet in the half bath wasn't flushing. Again, Nathan fixed it easily, but I was starting to see a trend that I didn't like. And then this morning, Avery and I were leaving Chloe's birthday party at the zoo, and I had a nervous-sounding call from our renter. I called back only to find that our townhouse caught on fire last night. Calm down; it sounds worse than it is. After some detective work, we found out that the recalled dishwasher shorted, caused a spark, tripped the breaker, and caused a fire. Luckily our renters and the firefighters caught it in time to halt it early. There was no damage inside, and some minimal damage outside (mostly from the firefighters trying to locate the fire in the wall). Well, this made us get around to calling the recall people back. FYI - The dishwasher was recalled in January, and we were only contacted about it in December. As soon as Nathan told the guy what happened, he said it was definitely the dishwasher. Luckily, it seems like everything will be covered. However, we have to go through Sears to fix the dishwasher, and Bosch to repair the house from the fire. I'm trying to prepare for all the red tape. It just seems like so much all at once. Again, we are VERY fortunate and thankful no one was hurt and that there wasn't more damage. But come on. Don't the bad luck fairies know that I am eight months pregnant, nesting and painting to prepare for a newborn, busy at work, looking for a nanny, trying to sell the townhouse (yes, it's on the market), AND taking care of a two year old? Not to mention trying to make it to every possible holiday party so I can see friends & indulge. Oh well. At least we're getting these complications out of the way before the new baby's arrival (I hope). I think I might really melt down if I had to deal with all of this AND a newborn. There's my rant. Hopefully all will be resolved by my next post. I would say pray for me, but I try to never pray for things I don't really need. So don't. Please just think happy thoughts for us, and pray for those who really need it. Love, happiness, peace, and FUN to all! I can't wait for all the Christmas fun!

Remember Me? Let's catch up!

Oh my goodness. I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. So much has happened; as you might expect, I've been SUPER busy. So, what have we been doing post-Avery's 2nd birthday? October 15th - Deadline time at work. Lot's of work; very little play. October 21st - Kayden's birthday. I took Avery to the petting zoo party which also included a pony. There were only a few kids at the party, so I think Avery got to ride the pony 20 times. She LOVED it, and I'm sure if she could articulate it, a pony would be the number one item on her Christmas list. October 31st - Halloween. We took Avery trick or treating (along with several of our neighbors including her boyfriends Evan & Emery). She had so much fun going up to the houses, and not saying "trick or treat" (although she knows how to). We even let her eat as much candy as she desired. We dug in, too! November 4th - I left for a conference in Orlando. Nathan & Avery met me up there a few days later, and we went to Disney World. What a blast, but we are exhausted. Avery would wait in line for the characters, but as soon as we got close, she'd freak out and wanted nothing to do with them. We got a few good pictures, but not as many as I had hoped for. November 15th - We celebrated Evan's 3rd birthday with a real firetruck. Avery puts on her fireman hat from the party, runs at full speed, and tells us "I firetruck". She is SO cute. November 20th - We started potty training Avery. She is doing AMAZINGLY WELL, and hardly has had any accidents. She's better at home than at daycare, but overall, we couldn't be happier. November 26th - We had a great Thanksgiving with family gathered at our house. I found out two days earlier that I passed my blood sugar test, so luckily I was able to sample all the yumminess! November 28th - Uncle Josh turned 31. Me and Nathan went out to celebrate, while Grammy kept Avery for the evening. No accidents :) I think we're about caught up. Nathan and I are about to partake in plenty of holiday parties. First on the list is this Saturday for the PKF party. We can't wait. Avery will stay with her Mimi & Pop all weekend (she is SUCH a big girl), so Nathan and I can enjoy our evening, and maybe even sleep in once or twice. I'll post again soon. Hopefully things will slow down just a little bit!
